Zeaxanthin powder is a carotenoid extracted from marigold flowers (Tagetes erecta L.). It is an isomer of lutein and imparts a distinctive yellow color to many plants. The human body cannot synthesize zeaxanthin, so it must be obtained from the diet. In the retina, zeaxanthin is the predominant component in the central macula.
